Sault Ste. Marie clinches OHL playoff spot with 7-3 trouncing of Sudbury @NHLdotcom

SUDBURY, Ont. - Brandon MacLean had two goals and an assist, and Arron Alphonso also scored twice as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds breezed to a 7-3 victory over the Sudbury Wolves in OHL action Tuesday night.

MacLean had two of the Greyhounds' three first-period goals as Sault Ste. Marie (34-15-2-4) officially clinched a playoff berth. Matthew Lyall and Jacob Lalonde each had a goal and two assists, while Wayne Simmonds added a single. Dustin Jeffrey had three assists.

Matt Dias scored twice and Eric O'Dell had the other goal for the Wolves (13-39-1-2), who have lost two straight.

Kyle Gajewski made 21 saves to earn the win for Sault Ste. Marie.

Alain Valiquette and Andrew Loverock combined to stop 31 shots for Sudbury.
