Sabres' Miller faces Canadiens' Price in top matchup

by Joe Yerdon

BUFFALO -- The matchup between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday at First Niagara Center features a pair of goaltenders who might represent his country at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Sabres coach Ted Nolan confirmed Ryan Miller would get the start in goal against Carey Price of the Canadiens. Miller was the U.S. starter at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and is vying for a spot on the 2014 roster for Sochi, and Price is in the mix to start for Canada.

"They're both playing extremely well since the beginning of the season," Canadiens forward Daniel Briere said. 'I don't think they see it that way. What's important for both of them, I'm sure, is to get a win, get their team on the winning side. They're both very competitive."

Briere was a teammate of Miller's during four seasons in Buffalo from 2002-03 through 2006-07.

Buffalo could see some changes to its lines against Montreal. The Sabres held an optional morning skate and the final players off were forward Mikhail Grigorenko, and defensemen Mike Weber and Jamie McBain.

The Sabres claimed forward Matt D'Agostini off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins. To make room for him on the roster, they waived forward Corey Tropp. If D'Agostini arrives in time for the game, it's possible he could play. If not, John Scott figures to play on the fourth line.

"It'll be a game-time decision," Sabres coach Ted Nolan said about possible changes. "It's one of those things where we want to try and show some consistency here and see what falls off after we do that. To be fair, we have to make sure we keep the same lineup for a couple games in a row and then see."

Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said Douglas Murray would return to the lineup on defense in place of Francis Bouillon. He'll likely team up with Raphael Diaz on the third pairing.
