BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Chris Drury will miss Buffalo's game against Toronto on Tuesday as the Sabres co-captain recovers from a concussion after being blindsided by Ottawa's Chris Neil last week.
Coach Lindy Ruff said Monday that Drury is still a few days away from being cleared for practice. There's a chance he could return by this weekend, when Buffalo hosts Montreal on Friday.
Drury, who leads the team with 33 goals, was hurt after he was sent flying by Neil's check during the second period of Buffalo's 6-5 shootout win over the Senators on Thursday. Drury, who's helmet was knocked off by the force of the hit, landed headfirst on the ice, the fall opening a deep gash across his forehead that required more than 20 stitches.
The hit sparked a major brawl, which began after the next faceoff, and involved all 12 players on the ice. Three players were ejected and the league fined Ruff $10,000 for sending out his three toughest players.
Neil was not penalized for the hit.
