Saad scores twice as Spirit down Sting 5-1 in game 1 @NHLdotcom

SARNIA, Ont. - Brandon Saad scored twice as the Saginaw Spirit opened their first-round match up against the host Sarnia Sting with a 5-1 victory on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Carlos Amestoy had a goal and an assist for the Spirit, who scored four straight goals in the second period, while Brandon Archibald and Garret Ross scored a goal apiece.

Alex Galchenyuk scored the lone goal for the Sting.

Sarnia's Nail Yakupov was back in the line up for the first time since missing the end of the regular season with a concussion.

Jake Paterson turned away 26 shots for the win while JP Anderson stopped 28 shots in a losing effort.

Saginaw went 1 for 3 on the power play as Sarnia scored once on five chances with the man advantage.

These two Western Conference squad's will meet again on Saturday when Sarnia hosts Saginaw for game two.
