SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Brendan Rowinski scored the winning goal in the ninth shootout round to lift the Calgary Hitmen to a 4-3 shootout win over the host Swift Current Broncos Tuesday in Western Hockey League action.
Swift Current is now 0-5 in shootout games, while Calgary won their first shootout decision of the year and are now 1-2 in shootout contests.
The shootout loss spoiled a stellar netminding performance from Broncos goalie Travis Yonkman who stopped 39 of 42 shots in regulation and overtime.
Calgary goaltender Martin Jones posted his eighth win of the season with a 19-save effort.
The Broncos forced overtime when Keegan Dansereau scored with 2:10 left in regulation. Swift Current also had goals from rookie Brad Hoban, with his first career WHL goal, and Levi Nelson.
Michael Stone, Ian Schultz and Kyle Bortis scored for Calgary.
The shootout win improves Calgary's record to 17-8-0-2 and moves them into a first place tie in the Central Division with the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Swift Current now has 33 points on the season with a 14-6-0-5 record.
