After Reid Boucher gave the Devils a 1-0 lead 2:34 into the second period, Rangers defenseman Raphael Diaz scored two power-play goals for a 2-1 lead.
Stefan Matteau tied it with 38 seconds left in the period, and Kyle Palmieri gave New Jersey a 3-2 lead 31 seconds into the third.
Stepan scored at 7:23 and 13:12. He also had two assists.
Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves for the Rangers; Cory Schneider made 20 for the Devils.
Oilers 3, Wild 0: Anders Nilsson made 25 saves and Connor McDavid had two assists for the Edmonton Oilers against the Minnesota Wild at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
McDavid, who did not play the prior two preseason games, had the secondary assist on a first-period goal by Anton Slepyshev and a third-period goal by Oscar Klefbom.
Rob Klinkhammer also scored in the third period.
Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper made 27 saves playing in his hometown. Erik Haula scored 24 seconds into a 3-on-3 overtime period for Minnesota.
Blue Jackets 4, Penguins 2: Ryan Johansen scored twice and had an assist for the Columbus Blue Jackets against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Consol Energy Center.
Johansen scored in the first and second period as the Blue Jackets built a 4-0 lead. Boone Jenner and Scott Hartnell also scored.
Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel scored in the second period for the Penguins.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 33 saves for Columbus. Jeff Zatkoff made 25 for Pittsburgh.
Sabres 6, Senators 4: Tyler Ennis had a hat trick plus an assist for the Buffalo Sabres against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre.
Jack Eichel assisted on Ennis' first two goals, the second which gave Buffalo a 4-2 lead after it trailed 2-0.
Mark Stone and Marc Methot gave Ottawa that two-goal lead; Nick Paul and Bobby Ryan also scored.
Evander Kane, Zemgus Girgensons and Johan Larsson (empty net) had the other Sabres goals.
Chad Johnson made 30 saves for Buffalo. Craig Anderson made 25 for Ottawa.
Canadiens 1, Maple Leafs 0: Mike Condon made 17 saves, and Dale Weise scored early in the second period to give the Montreal Canadiens a win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.
Weise scored 44 seconds into the second, assisted by David Desharnais and Mark Barberio.
Condon, 25, played for Hamilton in the American Hockey League last season.
James Reimer made 20 saves for Toronto.
Montreal was 0-for-6 on the power play; Toronto was 0-for-3.
Blackhawks 3, Blues 1: Marian Hossa and Duncan Keith each scored a power-play goal for the Chicago Blackhawks against the St. Louis Blues at United Center.
Brent Seabrook, who earlier Saturday agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension, had an assist on Keith's goal, which made it 3-1 with 2:02 left in the third period.
Keith and Hossa had an assist each. Corey Crawford made 20 saves.
Joel Edmundson gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal with 1:05 remaining in the first period. Jake Allen made 31 saves.
Bruins 4, Red Wings 3 (OT): Torey Krug scored 1:58 into overtime to give the Boston Bruins a win against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
Jakub Kindl scored for Detroit 1:35 into the third period to tie the game 3-3.
David Krejci gave Boston a 2-0 lead with goals 2:18 apart in the first period. Henrik Zetterberg answered for Detroit at 13:13 before teammate Tomas Tatar tied it 43 seconds into the second.
Brian Ferlin gave Boston a 3-2 lead at 15:11.
Malcolm Subban made 18 saves for Boston. Petr Mrazek made 27 for Detroit.
Stars 6, Lightning 3: The Dallas Stars scored three times in a 2:19 span of the third period to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning at American Airlines Center.
Cole Ully (4:59), Tyler Seguin (6:47) and Brendan Ranford (7:18) broke a 3-3 tie.
Slater Koekkoek scored for Tampa Bay 2:01 into the third period to tie it 3-3.
Seguin had two goals and an assist, and Patrick Sharp, Esa Lindell and Ranford each had a goal and an assist for Dallas.
Goalie Antti Niemi, in his first preseason action for the Stars, made 16 saves.
Jonathan Drouin had a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay. Ray Emery made 20 saves.
Flames 4, Canucks 3: Josh Jooris scored 1:37 into overtime to give the Calgary Flames a win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
Matt Stajan had his third assist on the game-winner. Brandon Bollig scored twice for Calgary, and Karri Ramo made 40 saves.
Markus Granlund scored for the Flames with 6:04 remaining in the third period for the third tie of the game.
