PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Nick Ritchie scored in overtime and Michael Giugovaz made 49 saves to give the Peterborough Petes a 3-2 win over the Kingston Frontenacs in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.
Alan Quine carried the puck behind the net and slipped a pass out to Ritchie, who fired it behind Kingston goaltender Mike Morrison at 3:17.
Stephen Pierog and Brett Findlay also scored for Peterborough (7-20-4).
Spencer Watson and Mikko Vainonen replied for Kingston (15-13-1), while Morrison stopped 42 shots.
Clark Seymour for Peterborough and Jean Dupuy for Kingston took roughing minors at the midway point of the first period then engaged in a spirited fight immediately after exiting the penalty boxes. Both players received fighting majors and game misconducts for the skirmish.
The Petes took over the momentum and registered the final 11 shots in the first period, making the total 20-11 overall. Pierog banged home the puck from a scramble to give Peterborough the lead on the period's lone goal.
Kingston outshot the Petes 27-13 in a second period that saw both goaltenders continue to put on outstanding performances. Watson was the only player able to connect so the teams went to the third tied 1-1.
Findlay gave Peterborough the lead again at 3:55 but Vainonen tied it on the power play just over three minutes later.
