VANCOUVER - Michal Repik scored two goals, two assists and Tyson Sexsmith made 19 saves for his league-leading seventh shutout as the Vancouver Giants blanked the Chilliwack Bruins 5-0 in WHL action Sunday night.
Repik showed no ill effects from a concussion sustained Dec. 1, which forced him to miss 21 games and the world junior hockey championships in his native Czech Republic. He now has 49 points in only 39 games this season.
Mario Bliznak also scored two goals while Chris Cloud supplied the other marker as the Giants (40-13-2-5) posted their fourth straight victory before a crowd of 8,085 at the Pacific Coliseum.
Spencer Machacek supplied four assists as he set up Repik and Bliznak on all of their four goals. Bliznak's two markers gave him four in the past three games.
Sexsmith improved his WHL-best goals against average to 1.96. The Giants directed 42 shots at Chilliwack counterpart Matt Esposito.
Vancouver now leads the regular-season series 7-0-1-1 over their Fraser Valley rivals. The Bruins (25-27-3-4) suffered their third straight loss.
Vancouver went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Bruins had three man-advantage opportunities.
Most of the game's suspense occurred in the first period. Repik gave Vancouver a 1-0 lead 11:44 into the game as he fooled Chilliwack goaltender Esposito with a long wrist shot from left wing.
Giants winger Garet Hunt was ejected at 12:19 of the first period when he received a major for slashing defenceman Matt Strong. But the Bruins could not capitalize on the ensuing five-minute power play, and they struggled offensively for the rest of the game.
The Giants took control after Repik put the Giants ahead 2-0 only 42 seconds into the middle period, converting Machacek's pass from the corner.
Vancouver outshot Chilliwack 20-4 in the middle session while building a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Chilliwack played without right winger Partik Bhungal, who has been suspended indefinitely for a kneeing incident Friday against Seattle. Giants defenceman R.J. LaRochelle sat out with a sore back.
