The Ottawa Senators
have re-signed restricted free-agent forward Peter Regin
to a two-year contract. The deal avoids an arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday
In his first full NHL season, Regin had 13 goals and 29 points, but his playoff performance is what stood out. In six playoff games in the first round against the Pittsburgh Penguins
, he tied for the team lead with 3 goals. He scored in the first period of Games 1 and 2 against the Penguins, and earned a spot at left wing on the club's top line, playing alongside Jason Spezza
and Daniel Alfredsson
"His strengths are his speed, his vision, his creativity, and I thought he's used that," Senators coach Cory Clouston said during the playoffs. "He's elevated his game as much or more than anyone has."
A 2004 third-round pick of the Senators, the 6-foot-2, 197-pound native of Herning, Denmark, has 14 goals and 31 points in 86 NHL games.
