Gustav Nyquist scored the clincher in the shootout, and the Detroit Red Wings overcame a hat trick by Patrice Bergeron in a 4-3 preseason win against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Saturday.
Riley Sheahan had a goal and an assist for Detroit; Xavier Ouellet and Andrej Nestrasil scored less than eight minutes apart in the second period to help the Red Wings build a 3-1 lead. Nestrasil also scored in the shootout.
Bergeron scored 3:14 into the second period before erasing the two-goal lead with goals 7:32 apart in the third.
Petr Mrazek stopped 20 of 23 shots for Detroit; Boston goalie Tuukka Rask made 26 saves.
The Red Wings begin the regular season Oct. 9 at Joe Louis Arena against the Bruins, one day after Boston opens at home against the Philadelphia Flyers.
