The Detroit Red Wings made the news official Tuesday, announcing via Twitter they have signed goaltender Jimmy Howard to a six-year contract extension.
There were reports last week that a deal was close, and TSN reported Thursday the extension is worth $31.8 million.
Howard, 29, is in the final year of a two-year, $4.5 million contract. He was an all-star last season and has won at least 35 games in three straight seasons. He is 17-12-6 with a 2.31 goals-against average and .920 save percentage this season.
