Red Wings' Datsyuk confirms he won't play in opener @NHLdotcom

Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk confirmed Wednesday he will not play in the season opener Thursday against the Boston Bruins, according to the Red Wings.

Datsyuk sustained a second-degree separation of his right shoulder Sept. 22, in the Red Wings' first preseason game. He has been practicing, but the initial prognosis was Datsyuk would be out for four weeks.

Injuries limited Datsyuk, 36, to 45 games last season.
