Red-hot Bruins chase fifth straight against Rangers

by Dave Lozo
RANGERS (2-2-1) at BRUINS (4-1-0)

Season Series:
First of four meetings. The Rangers won 3 of 4 last season, including both games in Boston.

Big Story:
Boston's Tim Thomas is off to the best start of any goaltender in the League. He's 4-0-0 with a 0.75 goals-against average and .978 save percentage. Coach Claude Julien has been riding the hot hand while starter Tuukka Rask has been riding the bench. Who will face the Rangers on Saturday remains a question, but the Bruins have two quality goaltenders right now.

Team Scope:

Rangers: Riding a three-game losing streak, the Rangers turned to backup goaltender Martin Biron for a road contest against the Maple Leafs. Making his first start of the season, Biron made 24 saves as the Rangers earned a much-needed 2-1 victory.

"As a team, I think this was the first time this year that we played a solid 60 minutes," said Biron, who will give way to starter Henrik Lundqvist on Saturday. "We have to play up to that standard the rest of the season."

Bruins: Boston is riding a four-game winning streak, and Thomas has been the big reason. But the 36-year-old who won the Vezina Trophy two seasons ago knows he's still part of a tandem with Rask.

"I understand that me and Tuukka are a tandem," Thomas said. "There's room enough for both of us to play. I'm not putting myself in the coach's shoes; I'm just playing as well as I can when I'm told to play."

Who's Hot: Rangers defenseman Michal Rozsival has 1 goal and 2 assists in his last four games. … Bruins rookie Jordan Caron has 2 goals in his last three games.

Injury Report:
The Rangers are without forwards Marian Gaborik (shoulder), Vinny Prospal (knee) and Chris Drury (finger). Center Erik Christensen (groin) could be a game-time decision. … The Bruins enter this game with no recent injuries.

Stat Pack: The Rangers blocked 30 shots in Thursday's win against the Maple Leafs. … The Bruins didn't win five consecutive games at any point last season.

Puck Drop:
"I'm hoping this isn't just a hot streak; this is me now," Thomas said. "At times last year I felt like I was a one-legged goalie."
