Rattie scores a hat trick as the Winterhawks edge the Royals 7-6 @NHL

PORTLAND, Ore. - Ty Rattie scored a hat trick, and Brendan Leipsic scored twice and added two assists as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the Victoria Royals 7-6 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Derek Pouliot had a goal and an assist for the Winterhawks (23-11-3) while Tyler Wotherspoon scored a single goal.

Jamie Crooks had three goals and an assist for the Royals (13-22-4), and Zane Jones scored twice. Kevin Sundher rounded out Victoria's scoring with a goal and two assists.

Mac Carruth picked up the win, making 33 saves, while Keith Hamilton stopped 47 shots in defeat.

Portland went 2-for-11 on the power play as the Royals scored once on four opportunities with the man advantage.

It was the third hat trick of the season for Rattie, who now leads the entire Canadian Hockey League in goals with 36. With an assist to give him a four-point night, Rattie took over the WHL lead in points at 67.
