NEW YORK -- Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello will be sidelined indefinitely after fracturing his left wrist during the first period of Friday night's game against the Buffalo Sabres.
Zuccarello blocked a shot by Sabres defenseman Jordan Leopold at 8:48 of the first period. Zuccarello immediately went to the Rangers locker room and did not return.
"It's tough anytime you lose a guy like that who has so much skill," Rangers captain Ryan Callahan said. "He brought another element to our power play, which was needed. It's a tough loss, but we have to keep going. Somebody else is going to jump in and that's how it goes in this League."
Since his recall from the Connecticut Whale of the AHL on March 11, Zuccarello had two goals and an assist in six games before Friday night's contest. One of his goals came on the power play and was the winner against the New Jersey Devils on Monday. He went scoreless in the Rangers' first three games of the season before being sent down to the Whale.
This will likely signal the return to the lineup of forward Ruslan Fedotenko, who has been a healthy scratch the past two games.
