Rangers acquire D McCabe from Panthers @NHLdotcom

NEW YORK (AP) - Veteran defenseman Bryan McCabe has been traded to the New York Rangers by the Florida Panthers for forward Tim Kennedy and a third-round draft pick in this year's draft.

The 35-year-old McCabe has long been rumored to be a target of the Rangers, and he waived his no-trade clause for the deal to be completed Saturday.

McCabe is joining his sixth NHL team. He's in the final season of a five-year, $28.75 million contract, and can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

He gives New York the offensive defenseman it has been seeking for the playoff push. McCabe has five goals and 17 assists in 48 games this season, and in 1,116 career NHL games, he's posted 143 goals and 379 assists.
