QMJHL suspends Sergey Ostapchuk eight games for a pair of incidents @NHL

BOUCHERVILLE, Que. - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League suspended forward Sergey Ostapchuk eight games and handed out a series of fines to his Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the Montreal Juniors on Monday.

Ostapchuk received six games, including an automatic one-game suspension, for his role in a fight during the third period Friday's 7-0 loss to Montreal. He also got two more games for spearing an opponent.

The Huskies were fined $500 for his actions and an additional $1,000 after Jerome Gauthier-Leduc fought twice during the melee that followed.

The Juniors were fined $1,500 for their role in the brawl.

Dmitri Kostromitin's two fights cost them $1,000 while Matt Fillier coming in as the third man in a fight garnered a $500 penalty.

Since Montreal clinched the series in six games with a 4-3 victory Sunday, Ostapchuk's suspension will start with the first game of the 2009-10 regular season.
