Preseason roundup: Senators rally past Canadiens @NHLdotcom

David Legwand scored a tiebreaking power-play goal with 1:14 remaining, and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 in a preseason game at Bell Centre on Saturday.

Ottawa tied the game on a power-play goal by Mika Zibanejad 8:19 into the third. Curtis Lazar scored into an empty net.

Max Pacioretty and Andrei Markov scored in the first period for Montreal after Mike Hoffman gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead.

Craig Anderson made 26 saves for the Senators, who finished the preseason 4-2-1. Ottawa beings the regular season Oct. 9 at the Nashville Predators.

Carey Price made 25 saves for the Canadiens, who went 4-2-1. They open at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 8.

Canadiens right wing PA Parenteau sustained a lower-body injury in the first period and did not return.

Red Wings 4, Bruins 3 (SO): Gustav Nyquist scored the clincher in the shootout, and the Detroit Red Wings overcame a hat trick by Patrice Bergeron in a preseason win against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Saturday.

Riley Sheahan had a goal and an assist for Detroit; Xavier Ouellet and Andrej Nestrasil scored less than eight minutes apart in the second period to help the Red Wings build a 3-1 lead. Nestrasil also scored in the shootout.

Bergeron scored 3:14 into the second period before erasing the two-goal lead with goals 7:32 apart in the third.

Petr Mrazek stopped 20 of 23 shots for Detroit; Boston goalie Tuukka Rask made 26 saves.

The Red Wings, who were 4-3-1 this preseason, begin the regular season Oct. 9 at Joe Louis Arena against the Bruins, one day after Boston, which went 3-2-2, opens at home against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Devils 3, Rangers 0: Cory Schneider made 20 saves, and Jaromir Jagr scored for the New Jersey Devils in a preseason win against the New York Rangers at Prudential Center.

Tuomo Ruutu and Dainius Zubrus scored for New Jersey, and Adam Larsson had two assists.

Cam Talbot stopped 21 of 24 shots for New York.

The Devils, who finished the preseason 4-1-1, open the regular season Oct. 9 at the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Rangers, who were 3-3-0, next play at the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 9.

Lightning 4, Panthers 1: Nikita Kucherov had a goal and an assist, and Ben Bishop made 36 saves to help the Tampa Bay Lightning to a preseason win against the Florida Panthers at Amalie Arena.

Steven Stamkos and J.T. Brown scored during Tampa Bay's three-goal first period. Anton Stralman scored early in the second. Stralman's goal was his third of the preseason; he had one goal in 81 games for the New York Rangers last season.

The Lightning were 5-1-0 this preseason, and Kucherov leads the NHL with six goals.

Aleksander Barkov scored a power-play goal for Florida 3:21 into the game. Al Montoya stopped 24 of 28 shots for the Panthers, who finished 0-4-2.

Tampa Bay and Florida open the regular season against each other Oct. 9 at Tampa Bay.

Blue Jackets 3, Predators 2: Nick Foligno scored two goals, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 45 saves in the Columbus Blue Jackets' preseason win against the Nashville Predators at Nationwide Arena.

Columbus went 7-1-0 this preseason.

Cam Atkinson scored, and David Savard had two assists for the Blue Jackets, who begin their regular season Oct. 9 on the road against the Buffalo Sabres.

Predators forward Eric Nystrom scored a shorthanded goal at 10:58 of the first period, and James Neal scored his first of the preseason with 1:33 left in the third. Pekka Rinne stopped 20 of 23 shots.

Nashville, 3-3-0 in the preseason, opens its regular season Oct. 9 at home against the Ottawa Senators.

Jets 4, Flames 1: Evander Kane had a goal and an assist, and Paul Postma had two assists to help the Winnipeg Jets to a preseason win against the Calgary Flames at MTS Centre.

Blake Wheeler, Jacob Trouba and Bryan Little scored for the Jets; Ondrej Pavelec stopped 17 of 18 shots. Winnipeg begins the regular season on Oct. 9 at the Arizona Coyotes. The Jets were 3-4-0 in the preseason.

David Jones scored 9:17 into the game for Calgary. Jonas Hiller made 21 saves. The Flames, who were 5-4-0 in the preseason, host the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 8.

Wild 5, Blues 4: Mikko Koivu scored with 32 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a preseason win against the St. Louis Blues at Xcel Energy Center.

Darcy Kuemper made 19 saves on 23 shots for Minnesota, which finished the preseason 3-2-1. Mikael Granlund, Erik Haula, Thomas Vanek and Matt Dumba scored for the Wild; Zach Parise had two assists.

Ian Cole scored a power-play goal for St. Louis to tie the game 4-4 with 4:39 remaining in the third period. Jori Lehtera had two goals and an assist, Ryan Reaves scored once, and Joakim Lindstrom, Petteri Lindbohm and Jaden Schwartz each had two assists.

Brian Elliott made 28 saves facing 33 shots for the Blues, who went 2-3-2.

Minnesota starts the regular season Oct. 9 at home against the Colorado Avalanche.

St. Louis opens Oct. 9 at home against the New York Rangers.

Canucks 3, Oilers 2: Henrik Sedin had two assists and Ryan Miller stopped 27 of 29 shots to give the Vancouver Canucks a preseason win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena.

Chris Higgins, Daniel Sedin and Radim Vrbata scored for the Canucks, who went 5-2-0 in the preseason. Vancouver will open the season on Oct. 8 at the Calgary Flames.

Nail Yakupov and Will Acton scored for Edmonton and Ben Scrivens made 15 saves. The Oilers, who went 4-4-0 in the preseason, will host Calgary on Oct. 9.

Ducks 2, Sharks 1 (OT): Corey Perry scored a power-play goal 3:37 into overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a preseason win against the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center.

Ryan Kesler erased a 1-0 deficit at 19:07 of the third period and Frederik Andersen made 25 saves for the Ducks, who went 3-3-1 in the preseason. Anaheim opens the season on Oct. 9 at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Tomas Hertl scored at 13:58 of the first period and Antti Niemi made 27 saves for the Sharks, who finished the preseason 3-2-2. San Jose will visit the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 8.

Avalanche 3, Kings 2 (SO): Nathan MacKinnon scored in the shootout before Semyon Varlamov denied Jarret Stoll in the Colorado Avalanche's preseason win against the Los Angeles Kings at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Dennis Everberg and Matt Duchene scored for the Avalanche, who concluded their preseason with a win after going 0-5-2 through seven games. Colorado will open the season on Oct. 9 at Minnesota.

Tyler Toffoli scored two goals for the Kings, who went 5-0-2 in the preseason. Los Angeles will raise its Stanley Cup championship banner on Oct. 8 before it hosts San Jose at Staples Center.
