Pittsburgh Penguins fire head coach Mike Johnston and assistant Gary Agnew @NHL

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Pittsburgh Penguins have fired head coach Mike Johnston.

Assistant coach Gary Agnew was also relieved of his duties.

The Penguins are tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference standings with 33 points.

General manager Jim Rutherford says that Mike Sullivan will take over as head coach.

Sullivan was in his first season as head coach of the Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate.
