Pens-Caps named NBC Sports' "Game Of The Week" for Feb. 7 @NHLdotcom
NBC announced Thursday that it has selected the Washington Capitals' game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 7 as the NHL's Game of the Week. The matchup, which will be broadcast in high-definition, will start at 12 p.m. ET.

The teams are facing off for the first time this season at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh on Thursday night. It's their first meeting since last May, when Sidney Crosby and the Penguins beat Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals in Game 7 to win their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Both the teams and superstars are at it again this season. Ovechkin has 65 points in 41 games, including 15 in his last seven and five against Toronto last Friday. Crosby has 63 points in 50 games, including 14 in his last seven and 6 in Pittsburgh's 6-4 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday. Ovechkin has 30 goals this season, tying him for third in the NHL. Crosby has 32 goals this season, second behind San Jose's Patrick Marleau, who has 34.

The Capitals, who have won seven of their last eight games, sit atop the Eastern Conference standings. The Penguins have won five of their last eight games and are fourth in the East.

The Penguins will also be on NBC's next two Game of the Week telecasts. They visit the Philadelphia Flyers this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET and host the Detroit Red Wings on Jan 31 at 12:30 p.m. ET in the first meeting between the teams since the Penguins edged the Wings 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last June.

At least 13 days prior to the scheduled game, one game is selected for broadcast on NBC.  All NBC games will be broadcast on Sundays and all games will be presented in HD.  Games not flexed to NBC will be available to the teams' regional carriers and remain at the originally announced start time.
