Penguins sign Sundqvist; Stars sign Smith @NHLdotcom

The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Oskar Sundqvist to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Saturday.

Sundqvist, 20, played this season with Skelleftea in the Swedish Elite League. He helped it win its second consecutive championship with six points (four goals) in 13 playoff games. He had 16 points (six goals) in 51 regular-season games.

Sundqvist (6-foot-3, 182 pounds) was chosen by the Penguins in the third round (No. 81) of the 2012 NHL Draft.

A native of Boden, Sweden, Sundqvist represented his country at the 2014 World Junior Championship, where he had two goals in seven games for the silver-medal winners.

Stars sign Smith -- The Dallas Stars signed forward Gemel Smith to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Saturday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Smith, 20, had a career-best 75 points (37 goals) in 69 regular-season games this season splitting time between London and Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League.

In four seasons in the OHL, Smith has 203 points (89 goals) in 264 games.

The 5-foot-11, 192-pound native of Thornhill, Ontario was selected by Dallas in the fourth round (No. 104) of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Sabres sign Baptiste -- The Buffalo Sabres signed forward Nicholas Baptiste to a three-year, entry-level contract on Saturday. No financial terms were disclosed.

Baptiste, the Sabres' third-round choice (No. 69) in the 2013 NHL Draft, spent the past three seasons playing for the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League. He had career highs in goals (45), assists (44) and points (89) in 2013-14, when he was fourth in the OHL in goals.

In three seasons with the Wolves, Baptiste played in 195 games and produced 164 points (74 goals). The Ottawa native also earned a gold medal while playing with Team Canada at the 2013 Under-18 World Championship in Sochi, Russia.
