Pasquale, Ross combine in shootout to lift Spirit over Spitfires 5-4 @NHL

Edward Pasquale gave the Saginaw Spirit a chance to win and Garret Ross didn't let him down.

Ross scored the only goal in the shootout and Saginaw beat the first-place Windsor Spitfires 5-4, extending their win streak to three games in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night.

Pasquale was perfect in the shootout after stopping 36 shots as Windsor outshot the Spirit 40-22. Russian prospect Ivan Telegin had two goals and an assist for the Spirit (10-4-2) and Jordan Skellett added three assists in the win.

Telegin is projected to be a first-round selection in the 2010 NHL entry draft. OHL scoring leader Taylor Hall - projected to be the first-overall selection - matched Telegin with a three-point game for Windsor. Hall's goal and two assists raise his point total to 38 on the season, four points ahead of fellow top draft prospect Tyler Seguin.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Barrie 2 Niagara 1; Owen Sound 4 Mississauga 1; Plymouth 4 Erie 3; and Sarnia 4 Belleville 2.

At Saginaw, Mich., Tyler Murovich and T. J. Brodie had a goal each for the Spirit, who trail Windsor by seven points for the West Division lead.

Scott Timmons scored two goals as part of a three-point night for the Spitfires (13-3-3), who dropped their second in a row. Greg Nemisz also scored.

Windsor netminder Troy Passingham stopped 18 shots.


Colts 2 IceDogs 1

At Barrie, Ont., Dalton McGrath stopped 27 of 28 shots as the Colts defeated Niagara for their fourth straight win.

Darren Archibald and Taylor Carnevale scored for Barrie (12-4-1), which holds a three-point lead atop the Central Division.

Andrew Agozzino replied for the IceDogs (6-9-3), who are on a three-game losing skid.


Attack 4 Majors 1

At Owen Sound, Ont., Scott Stajcer made 43 saves and Marcus Carroll had a hand in all four Attack goals as Owen Sound surprised Mississauga.

Carroll finished with a goal and three assists for the Attack (7-10-3), who have won three in a row. Jason Wilson, Garrett Wilson and Mike Halmo also scored.

Josh McFadden had the lone reply for the Majors (11-4-0).


Whalers 4 Otters 3

At Erie, Pa., defenceman Michal Jordan scored twice and picked up an assist as Plymouth scored four power-play goals and held off a late rally by the Otters.

Ryan Hayes and Josh Brittain also scored for the Whalers (10-6-0).

Shawn Szydlowski and Andrew Yogan replied for Erie (5-9-3).


Sting 4 Bulls 2

At Belleville, Ont., Ben O'Quinn scored twice as Sarina downed the Bulls.

Jordan Hill and Jesse Stoughton also scored as the Sting (9-6-1) built a 4-0 lead and held off a third-period charge by Belleville. Steve Reese and Kale Kerbashian had two assists each.

Braeden Corbeth and Julian Luciani replied for the Bulls (5-11-1).
