SUNRISE, Fla. -- Goalie Roberto Luongo left the Florida Panthers' game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night after the first period with an upper-body injury and did not to return.

Luongo was knocked down and shaken up after Carolina forward Radek Dvorak
crashed into him with 7:12 left in the opening period. Luongo finished out the period but was not on the bench for the start of the second. He was replaced by Dan Ellis
. The Pannthers said Luongo was removed as a precautionary measure.
Luongo gave up one goal on 12 shots in the first period. He faced one shot after getting hit by Dvorak, who was assessed a five-minute major for charging along with a game misconduct.
The Hurricanes won the game 3-0.
