Florida Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury, coach Gerard Gallant told the Sun-Sentinel on Wednesday.
Bjugstad, who has missed the past five games, will not travel with the Panthers when they play the Boston Bruins on Saturday but hopes to join them near the end of a four-game road trip.
"It's not short-term," Gallant said. "He won't be playing [Thursday] and he won't be coming on the trip at first. I mean, I am hoping. But they haven't told me a whole lot."
The Panthers (13-11-4) play the Washington Capitals on Thursday at BB&T Center.
Bjugstad, the 19th pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, has seven goals and 12 points this season. He scored an NHL career-high 24 goals in 72 games last season before missing the final 10 games because of back surgery.
