CHICAGO - The NHL has changed Trevor van Riemsdyk's first career goal into the first assist for the rookie defenceman with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Van Riemsdyk was credited with a goal on a big slap shot in the first period of Chicago's 5-2 victory over San Jose on Sunday night. But the NHL changed the scoring on the play on Monday, ruling forward Kris Versteeg got a piece of the shot for career goal No. 106.
The scoring change also eliminated a historic first period for the Blackhawks. When the goal was credited to van Reimsdyk, it was the first time three defencemen scored in a single period for Chicago since the third period of an 8-1 victory over Edmonton on Nov. 27, 1992.
