Oil Kings beat Raiders in one-game playoff, claim last WHL post-season berth

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - Rhett Rachinski's overtime goal sent the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Western Hockey League post-season for the first time in franchise history.

Rachinski scored 8:54 into overtime to give the Oil Kings a 2-1 win over the Prince Albert Raiders on Tuesday in a rare one-game playoff to determine which team earned the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The extra game became necessary when both the Oil Kings and the Raiders finished the WHL season with 67 points.

Edmonton will face the top-ranked Calgary Hitmen in the first round of the WHL playoffs.

Rhett Rachinski had a goal and an assist in regulation for Edmonton.

Bryce Lamb replied for Prince Albert.

Torrie Jung stopped 35 shots for Edmonton.

Garrett Zemlak made 40 saves for Prince Albert.
