OHL Roundup: Bennett has overtime winner as Frontenacs down Petes 4-3 @NHLdotcom

Sam Bennett's quick shot gave the Kingston Frontenacs the win on Thursday.

Bennett buried a wrist shot from the face-off circle at 2:59 of overtime to give Kingston a 4-3 win over the Peterborough Petes in Ontario Hockey League action.

Darcy Greenaway had two goals and an assist and Spencer Watson three assists to lead the Frontenacs. Cody Alcock also scored for Kingston (4-3).

Zach Lorentz, Trevor Murphy and Steven Trojanovic each scored for Peterborough (2-5-1).

The Frontenacs had to kill off a 5-on-3 in the final two minutes of regulation and into overtime when a pair of their defenders took delay of game penalties for flipping the puck over the boards.

Lorentz tipped home a point shot to give Peterborough the lead after the first period. Kingston outscored the Petes 3-0 in the second period to hold a two-goal advantage through 40 minutes.

Murphy and Trojanovic, both defencemen, connected about five minutes apart in the first half of the third period and neither team could score again until the extra frame.

Kingston went 1-for-6 on the power play and Peterborough was scoreless in six man advantages. The winning shot edged the Frontenacs ahead 30-29 in total shots for the game.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Ottawa 4 Niagara 3; Windsor 7 Sault Ste. Marie 4 and Barrie 8 Saginaw 5.

67's 4 IceDogs 3

At St. Catharines, Ont., Jake Cardwell's power-play goal, his second of the game, gave Ottawa a victory over Niagara.

Steven Janes, and Tyler Graovac had the other 67's (2-5-0) goals.

Luke Mercer on the power play, Mitchell Theoret and Mike Robinson responded for Niagara (5-4-0).

Spitfires 7 Greyhounds 4

At Windsor, Ont., Derek Schoenmakers and Michael Clarke both scored twice as the Spitfires defeated Sault Ste. Marie.

Josh Ho-Sang, with the first of his OHL career, Brady Vail and Kerby Rychel had the other goals for Windsor (4-3-0-2).

Brandon Alderson, Darnell Nurse, Jared McCann and Sergey Tolchinsky replied for the Greyhounds (5-3-0).

Colts 8 Spirit 5

At Barrie, Ont., Andreas Athanasiou had a hat trick as the Colts trounced Saginaw.

Erik Bradford also scored twice for Barrie (6-2-0), which won its fifth game in a row. Zach Hall, Josh MacDonald and Anthony Camara added singles, while Steven Beyers chipped in with three assists.

Garret Ross scored twice for the Spirit (2-4-2). Steven Strong, Eric Locke and Brandon Lindberg also scored for Saginaw.
