Niederreiter's goal leads Winterhawks to come-from-behind 5-3 win over Tigers

Nino Niederreiter's third-period goal completed a spirited comeback as the Portland Winterhawks beat the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-3 Tuesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Niederreiter converted a 2-on-1 pass from Brad Ross with 15:24 remaining, the third unanswered goal from the U.S. Division leaders after the Tigers broke out to a 3-1 first-period lead.

Ross had a goal and two assists for Portland (9-5-0), while Spencer Bennett had two and Luke Walker also scored for the visitors.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Prince Albert 3 Regina 2 (OT); Calgary 6 Red Deer 3; and Moose Jaw 2 Kamloops 1.

At Medicine Hat, Alta., Medicine Hat (6-3-4) got a goal and an assist from Bretton Cameron, plus singles from Wacey Hamilton and Kale Kessy.

Ian Curtis made 31 saves for the win, while Medicine Hat's Tyler Bunz stopped 28 shots.
