Nicholls has two goals, assist as Blades trump visiting Pats 5-3 @NHLdotcom

SASKATOON - Josh Nicholls scored two goals and an assist as the Saskatoon Blades beat provincial rivals the Regina Pats 5-3 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Brent Benson, with three assists, Matej Stransky and Duncan Siemens also scored for Saskatoon (8-4-1). It was the Blades' first game on home ice in nearly two weeks after an extensive road trip in the U.S.

Matt Marantz, Lyndon Martell and Jordan Weal replied for Regina (9-5-0).

Weal pulled the Pats within one when he scored at 15:51 of the third, but Nicholls potted an empty-netter in the dying seconds.

Both Blades? netminder Andrey Markov and Pats goaltender Matt Hewitt each made 18 saves.

The Blades head to Prince Albert on Saturday to battle with the Raiders, while the Pats host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday.
