The NHL Network is gearing up for the new season with a full day of hockey on Saturday that includes three live preseason telecasts and a tribute to the highest-scoring U.S.-born player in League history.
Spend your Saturday with NHL Network as the action starts at 3 p.m. ET when the Minnesota Wild come to the Consol Energy Center for a meeting with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Wild got a major makeover during the summer after a pair of big deals with San Jose, while the Penguins received a boost when returning star Evgeni Malkin had two points in his preseason debut against Detroit on Wednesday.
At 6 p.m. ET, the NHL Network will air "Mike Modano: American Icon," which takes a look at Modano's life and career, starting from his childhood in Livonia, Mich., through his final game with the Dallas Stars in 2010. Family, friends and former teammates will pay tribute to Modano for what he did for the game of hockey and how he'll be remembered. Modano, who leads all U.S.-born players with 561 goals and 1,359 points, officially announced his retirement earlier this week after 21 seasons -- 20 with the Stars franchise in both Minnesota and Dallas.
Modano, who played with Detroit last season, signed a one-day contract with Dallas so he could officially retire as a Star. The NHL Network will air his retirement press conference live at 2 p.m. ET on Friday; the event will also be streamed on NHL.com.
At 7 p.m. ET, it's back to the ice as the Toronto Maple Leafs visit Buffalo in the back end of a home-and-home series between the Northeast Division rivals, who also meet Friday night at Air Canada Centre.
To finish off the tripleheader, the action moves west as the Anaheim Ducks travel to Vancouver for a 10 p.m. ET matchup between Western Conference foes.
