BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Tyler Myers scored 2:01 into overtime to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night.
Tyler Ennis scored twice and Ryan Miller made 26 saves as Buffalo earned its season-best fifth consecutive home win. The Sabres (33-29-8) also improved to 9-2-2 in their past 13 games and jumped ahead of Winnipeg into ninth place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind Washington in the race for the final playoff spot.
Erik Cole and David Desharnais scored for the Canadiens (27-32-11), who had won two in a row.
Montreal managed to salvage a point when Desharnais forced overtime during a scramble with 5 seconds left in regulation.
The decisive goal came on a 3-on-2 rush, with Derek Roy driving up the left wing. He swung a pass across to Myers, who snapped a shot by Peter Budaj and just inside the left post.
PREDATORS 5, COYOTES 4, SO
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Andrei Kostitsyn scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Predators the victory.
Kostitsyn, shooting first for the Preds, beat Mike Smith through his legs for the win.
Phoenix trailed 4-2 early in the third, but Oilver Ekman-Larrson and Raffi Torres scored to help send the game to overtime.
Martin Erat had a goal and two assists for Nashville.
The Coyotes recorded one point and remained in seventh in the Western Conference. Colorado beat Anaheim in overtime on Monday and is one back of Phoenix with 78 points.
Nashville pulled within two points of Detroit for fourth out West.
AVALANCHE 3, DUCKS 2, OT
DENVER (AP) - Gabriel Landeskog scored at 1:52 of overtime, Semyon Varlamov stopped 38 shots and Colorado remained in the thick of a tightly congested Western Conference playoff chase.
Jamie McGinn and Kevin Porter also scored for the surging Avalanche, who have won four of five to move into the eighth and final playoff spot.
Francois Beauchemin and Teemu Selanne had the goals for the Ducks, a team that was rolling along until a recent slide. Anaheim has dropped six of eight to tumble even further out of the postseason picture.
The winning goal was set up by a turnover in the Ducks end. Matt Hunwick stole the puck and passed it to Landeskog, who knocked it by Jonas Hiller as the Avalanche improved to 14-4 this season in games that go beyond regulation.
SHARKS 3, OILERS 2
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Logan Couture scored a tiebreaking goal early in the third period and San Jose stopped a five-game slide.
Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist while Torrey Mitchell also scored for the Sharks (34-25-9), who are trying to get back into the playoff picture after losing 11 of their previous 13 games.
San Jose is one point back of eighth-place Colorado in the tight Western Conference race.
Ryan Whitney and Taylor Hall scored for the Oilers (26-36-7), who have lost six of seven.
The Sharks got their go-ahead goal 38 seconds into the third when Dan Boyle unleashed a hard shot from the point that Couture tipped past Dubnyk while on the power play.
