WASHINGTON (AP) -Alex Ovechkin broke a third-period tie with a highlight-reel goal and scored on a power play less than 2 minutes later to help Washington beat Detroit 4-2 on Saturday, extending the Red Wings' losing streak to a season-high five games.
Ovechkin appeared to have overskated Viktor Kozlov's feed along the left wing, but reached behind, put the puck through his legs and used defenseman Brian Rafalski as a shield before pushing a low shot past Ty Conklin with 7:08 remaining.
Detroit's Kirk Maltby was penalized for cross-checking with 5:58 left, and, 6 seconds later, Ovechkin scored for his NHL-leading 33rd goal.
Mike Green and Kozlov also scored for Washington.
Ville Leino and Johan Franzen scored for Detroit.
BOSTON (AP) - Tuukka Rask made 35 saves for his first NHL shutout in his fourth start, and Marc Savard scored for Boston.
Rask, playing his first NHL game since Dec. 6, 2007, after an injury to Manny Fernandez forced Tim Thomas to play the previous eight games, helped the NHL-leading Bruins improve to 7-1-2 in their last 10 games. Boston took a one-point lead over San Jose in overall standings. Chicago beat San Jose on Saturday night.
Savard deflected Dennis Wideman's slap shot out of the air with 22.2 seconds left in the second period. Rask made 15 saves in the third period.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Jonathan Toews scored twice and ended Eugeni Nabokov's franchise record scoreless streak at 170:58 in Chicago's first victory over San Jose in nearly six years.
Kris Versteeg and Duncan Keith also scored, Nikolai Khabibulin made 33 saves. Christian Erhoff and Milan Michalek scored for San Jose. The Sharks lost for the second time in 27 home games.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - James Neal had two goals and an assist, and Marty Turco made 35 saves to lead Dallas to its fourth straight victory.
Loui Eriksson added a goal and an assist, and Brian Sutherby, Steve Ott, Trevor Daley and Andrew Hutchinson also scored for the Stars. Mike Modano added two assists.
Kristian Huselius had a goal and an assist, and Fedor Tyutin and Jared Boll also scored for Columbus. Blue Jackets rookie star Steve Mason was replaced by Wade Dubielewicz after allowing three goals in the opening 10:43.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Marc-Andre Bergeron scored his second goal on a power play 2:02 into overtime for Minnesota.
Vancouver's Ryan Kesler scored his second goal on a power play with 15.3 seconds left in regulation and the goalie pulled, but Daniel Sedin was penalized for tripping Mikko Koivu in overtime, and Bergeron one-timed a shot that deflected off Canucks forward Ryan Johnson's leg and past Roberto Luongo.
Koivu and Eric Belanger also scored for Minnesota.
Alexander Edler added a goal for Vancouver. The Canucks have lost eight straight (0-5-3) games to fall into 11th place in the Western Conference.
MONTREAL (AP) - Saku Koivu scored on a power-play goal with 22.3 seconds remaining to end Montreal's season-high losing streak at four games.
Christopher Higgins tied it with 1:53 left, Tomas Plekanec and Andrei Kostitsyn also scored for Montreal, and Carey Price made 23 saves. Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll each had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles.
TORONTO (AP) - Jason Blake beat Mathieu Garon with a wrist shot with 9:55 left and Toronto held on to beat Pittsburgh.
Blake scored for the fourth straight game to cap a festive night at Air Canada Centre that started with the Maple Leafs honoring former captain Doug Gilmour.
Ian White, Nik Antropov, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Matt Stajan also scored goals for Toronto. Miroslav Satan, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Tyler Kennedy scored for Pittsburgh.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Chris Mason made 35 saves for his 15th career shutout and second in three games, and Carlo Colaiacovo scored his second goal for St. Louis.
Jay McClement, David Backes and Patrik Berglund added goals, Brad Boyes and T.J. Oshie each had two assists, and Mason also had an assist. Mason, who has allowed two goals in his last three starts, also blanked Chicago on Jan. 21.
The Flyers were 0-for-11 on the power play.
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Ryan Miller made 28 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, and Buffalo won for the fifth time in seven games.
Tim Connolly scored his fourth goal in three games, and Daniel Paille added a goal. Phoenix has lost three straight and hasn't scored in its last 142:36.
DENVER (AP) - Teemu Selanne broke a tie early in the third period, and Anaheim handed Colorado its fourth straight loss and seventh in eight games.
George Parros, Ryan Getzlaf and Scott Niedermayer also scored for Anaheim. John-Michael Liles, Milan Hejduk and Ian Laperriere scored for Colorado.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Cam Ward made 19 saves for his third shutout of the season for Carolina, and Matt Cullen had a goal and an assist for the second straight game.
Cullen and Ray Whitney scored during a dominating first period, and the Hurricanes held on for their fourth win in five games. Atlanta has lost four straight.
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Yann Danis made 37 saves to lead New York to its third straight victory, allowing only Gregory Campbell's goal with 1:27 left.
Mike Comrie, Bill Guerin and Kyle Okposo scored for New York.
