EVERETT, Wash. - The Kamloops Blazers scored the game's first three goals, then held on to defeat the Everett Silvertips 3-2 Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.
Matt Needham, Brendan Ranford and Brady Gaudet gave Kamloops (44-16-4) a 3-0 lead going into the third period.
Reid Petryk and Josh Winquist scored in the third for Everett (17-37-9). Petryk's was a power-play goal, while Winquist's was shorthanded.
Cole Cheveldave made 28 saves in goal for Kamloops, which moved back within one point of first place in the Western Conference. The Blazers are tied for second with Portland at 92 points, one behind first-place Tri-City.
Kent Simpson stopped 29 shots in net for the Silvertips, who remained one point out of the Western Conference's eighth and final playoff position.
