Murphy stops 34, Pither scores twice as Belleville breaks the Spirit 5-1 @NHL

SAGINAW, Mich. - Mike Murphy stopped 34 of 35 shots and Luke Pither scored twice to lead the Belleville Bulls to a 5-1 victory over the Saginaw Spirit Friday night in the Ontario Hockey League.

The East Division-leading Bulls won for the ninth time in their past 11 games and increased their division lead to 11 points over second-place Ottawa. Murphy was named second star and made several outstanding saves during the game.

Brandon Mashinter and Marc Cantin each had a goal and an assist for Belleville (35-14-2-2) and P. K. Subban added two assist in the win. Kody Alcock rounded out the scoring for the Bulls, who broke open a close game with two goals in the second period.

Joe Pleckaitis scored the lone goal for Saginaw (29-18-0-3), who saw their three game winning streak come to an end. Spirit netminder Edward Pasquale made 20 saves.
