ERIE, Pa. - Tyler Murovich scored late in the second period to spark the Saginaw Spirit's four-goal outburst as they handed the Erie Otters a 5-2 loss on Saturday night in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Spirit followed Murovich's goal, which tied the score at 2 with 1:52 seconds left in the second, with three third-period goals. Daniel Pachis, who had one goal in four games this season, handed the Spirit a 3-2 lead 5:40 into the third. Jack Combs, a 100-point scorer last season, then sealed the win with 4:24 left. Murovich capped a three-point effort with an assist on Jordan Szwarz's empty-net goal.
Chris Chappell also scored for Saginaw.
The Spirit (30-18-0-3) snapped the Otters' four-game winning streak. Saginaw, which stands third in the Western Conference, has won all three meetings with the Otters (27-24-2-0) this season two at Tullio.
Erie gained a 1-0 lead on captain Zack Torquato's goal 10:18 into the opening period. Torquato redirected defenseman Chris Breen's shot from the point past Spirit goaltender Edward Pasquale. Luke Gazdic had the other goal for the Otters.
Pasquale made 31 saves for Saginaw, while Erie goaltender Jaroslav Janus stopped 25 shots.
