Montreal Junior beat Gatineau Olympiques 5-2 to take 2-1 series lead @NHLdotcom

GATINEAU, Que. - Trevor Parkes scored twice, including the eventual game-winner, as the Montreal Junior beat the Gatineau Olympiques 5-2 in the only Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff game Monday.

With the win, Montreal now leads the first-round series 2-1. Vincent Bourgeois, Matthew Brenton and Louis-Marc Aubry also scored for the Junior. Guillaume Asselin and Jeremy Gouchie each added two assists.

Yoan Pinette and Hugo Laporte replied for Gatineau.

The Olympiques, who earned a split of the first two games in Montreal, took the lead on the power play at 11:46 of the first after Pinette scored his first of playoffs.

Brenton tied things for Montreal less that two minutes later before the Junior exploded with three goals in an 8:20-span in the second.

Parkes scored at 5:00 with the man advantage to give the Junior the lead and Bourgeois stretched the Montreal lead to 3-1 at 7:18.

Parkes' second of the night at 13:20 made it 4-1, but Laporte brought Gatineau back to within two late in the period.

Aubry put to rest any thoughts of a Gatineau comeback with Montreal's second power-play goal of the night at 9:17 of the third to make it 5-2.

Jean-Francois Berube made 22 saves to get the win, while Maxime Clermont stopped 19 shots in defeat.

Game 4 goes Wednesday in Gatineau.
