Modano not sure if he will retire or keep playing @NHLdotcom

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -Mike Modano says he is "really kind of on the fence" about whether he will retire or return for another NHL season.

He was at Texas Motor Speedway to drive the pace car before the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race Sunday, a week after his contract with the Dallas Stars ended following his 20th full NHL season.

Modano turns 40 in June and the highest-scoring U.S.-born player in league history says there have not been any talks about a new contract with the Stars, but that general manager and former teammate Joe Nieuwendyk has given him "the leeway" to take his time.

While pondering his playing future, Modano is part of a group seeking ownership of the Stars, the team for which he has played his entire career.
