ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Mike Zigomanis scored in overtime to lift the Toronto Marlies past the Rochester Americans 5-4 in American Hockey League play Friday.
Zigomanis's goal cut short Rochester's momentum after Americans centre Paul Szczechura's goal forced extra time in the dying minutes of the third period.
Nazem Kadri scored twice for Toronto (39-23-7), while Greg Scott and Will Acton added singles and Ben Scrivens made 33 saves.
Szczechura led Rochester (32-24-12) with two goals, and Evan Rankin and Derek Whitmore added one apiece. David Leggio meanwhile stopped 27 shots.
Szczechura gave Rochester a 1-0 lead just 52 seconds into the game, but that was countered by Acton eight minutes later.
The teams traded goals through the second and third periods until Kadri's goal at 15:59 gave Toronto its first lead of the game.
It was short lived. Szczechura scored his second nearly three minutes later to set up the overtime finale.
