ERIE, Pa. - Connor McDavid scored twice as the Erie Otters defeated the visiting Brampton Battalion 5-1 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.
Stephen Harper and Luke Cairns each had a goal and assist for the Otters (2-3-1), who won for the first time in three outings, while Connor Brown and J.P. Labardo added two assists apiece.
Johnny McGuire added a single goal to round out Erie's offence.
Blake Clarke scored the lone goal for the Battalion (2-3-1.)
Oscar Dansk made 34 saves for the win as Jake Smith stopped 19-of-24 shots in a losing effort.
Erie went 0-for-1 on the power play while Brampton failed to score on either of their chances with the man advantage.
In a pre-game ceremony Erie unveiled a banner in memory of Anna Ftorek, the youngest daughter of head coach Robbie and wife Wendy Ftorek, who died on July 21 at the age of 23.
McGuire opened the scoring for the Otters 8:48 into the first period.
The Otters were outshot in the opening period 13-5, but Dansk stopped every shot he faced to give his club a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
McDavid redirected a cross-ice pass from Brown at 6:06 of the second period to make it 2-0 Erie.
Brampton began the third on the power play, as Brown took a holding penalty to end the second period, but the Otters capitalized instead when Cairns scored 10 seconds into the period.
Clarke's wrist shot from in front of Erie's goal ended Dansk's bid for his first OHL shutout at 7:30.
Harper responded for the Otters with 4:51 remaining in the game and McDavid added one more two minutes later.
