Mattsson makes 44 saves as Wolves defeat Niagara IceDogs 2-1 in shootout

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Johan Mattsson made 44 saves as the Subbury Wolves defeated the Niagara IceDogs 2-1 in a shootout Saturday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

Mattsson made 16 saves in the middle period and 15 more in the third as both teams traded second-period goals to send the game to overtime.

Joshua Leivo opened the scoring for Sudbury 4:06 in the second period, deflecting home his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Freddie Hamilton notched his team-high 10th of the campaign to tie things for Niagara just over 12 minutes later.

Michael Sgarbossa scored the eventual shootout winner for the Wolves who improved to 6-6-1 with the win.

The IceDogs fell to 7-6-2 with the loss. Mark Visentin made 22 stops for Niagara.

Both teams were 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

The game featured former NHLer Jeff Beukeboom on the bench coaching for Sudbury, while his son, defenceman and St. Louis Blues property Brock Beukeboom playing for the IceDogs.
