LONDON, Ont. - Mark Hunter earned his first Ontario Hockey League head coaching victory in 11 years Friday as the London Knights blanked the Saginaw Spirit 6-0.
Michael Houser made 37 saves for his third shutout of the season as London (21-5-1) picked up its third straight win, but the first with its renovated coaching staff of Hunter and assistants Dylan Hunter, Rob Ramage and Misha Donskov.
Hunter took over as coach of the Knights after older brother Dale was hired by the Washington Capitals earlier this week.
While Dale is winless in two games in the NHL after 451 regular-season victories with London, Mark added to the 158 wins he earned guiding the Sarnia Sting from 1994 to 2000.
Seth Griffith paced London with two goals and an assist, while Max Domi, Ryan Rupert, Dane Fox and Jared Knight each had a goal and an assist. Vladislav Namestnikov and Tyler Ferry added two assists apiece.
Tad Galansky started for the Spirit (10-16-2), but was pulled after Griffith's second of the night 5:32 into the second made it 4-0. He finished with just 12 saves. Jake Paterson stopped 20 of 22 shots in relief.
Houser has blanked Saginaw twice this year as the Knights prevailed 8-0 on opening night back on Sept. 23.
