Mark Cullen scores winner in third period as Rampage defeat Heat 2-1

SAN ANTONIO - Mark Cullen scored the winner in the third period as the San Antonio Rampage beat the Abbotsford Heat 2-1 in American Hockey League action Monday.

James Wright also scored for San Antonio (19-18-2), while Dov Grumet-Morris made 25 saves.

Akim Aliu scored for Abbotsford (24-13-3), which lost its second straight game and finished 1-2 over its run of three road games on three consecutive days.

The Heat were in first place in the Western Conference heading into the weekend, but the two losses have knocked them into third place in the tightly contested West Division.

Danny Taylor stopped 29 shots for the Heat.

Wright opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 14:49 of the first period. That ended Abbotsford's streak of successful penalty kills at 29.

Aliu tied the game when the puck deflected off his skate at 18:38 of the first period, and that was all the scoring until Cullen's winner 7:12 into the third.
