VANCOUVER - Marek Tvrdon scored in the third period to lift the Vancouver Giants past the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Sunday night.
Austin Vetterl and Wes Vannieuwenhuizen also scored for the Giants (28-17-3) in the win, while Chance Lund scored two in defeat for the Thunderbirds (17-26-2).
Vancouver outshot Seattle 45-26, and didn't allow the Thunderbirds a single shot on goal in the first period.
Vetteri scored in the first, and Vannieuwenhuizen added one in the second to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead.
Lund got Seattle on the board at 4:41 in the third, but Tvrdon's power-play goal put Vancouver ahead for good at 10:47.
Lund added one more on the power play with less than three minutes left to cap the scoring.
Giants goaltender Payton Lee stopped 24 shots, while Thunderbird goalie Calvin Pickard made 42 saves. Pickard's final save of the game was his 9,659th career stop, a WHL record.
