TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs traded defenceman Hal Gill to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday and sent forwards Wade Belak and Chad Kilger to the Florida Panthers.

The hulking six-foot-seven, 250-pound Gill has 20 points (2-18) in 63 games this season. The Penguins gave up a second-round pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft and a fifth-rounder in 2009.

Earlier, the Leafs sent Belak to the Florida Panthers for a 2008 fifth-round pick. Toronto and Florida hooked up again later in the day with Kilger going to the Sunshine State for a 2008 third-round pick.

Belak had spent parts of the past seven seasons with the Maple Leafs after originally being claimed off waivers from Calgary. He's appeared in 30 games this season, scoring one goal and racking up 66 penalty minutes that includes six fighting majors. Kilger has 17 points (10-7) in 53 games.

Gill is earning US$2.075 million this season and will get $2.1 million in 2008-09. Kilger is earning $800,000 this season and will get $700,000 next season.

Belak, who plays both forward and defence, is earning $625,000 this season and will be an unrestricted free agent July 1. In 425 career games with Colorado, Calgary and Toronto, the 31-year-old has 29 points (8-21) and 1,096 penalty minutes.
