Hugh Jessiman had a goal and an assist while Justin Mercier, Evan Brophey and Cameron Gaunce also scored for Lake Erie (8-9-2).

Louis Leblanc replied for Hamilton (6-10-2), which wasted a 42-save performance from goaltender Robert Mayer.

The Monsters started strong as Mercier opened the scoring 1:40 of the first period. Mercier collected his own rebound and put the puck through Mayer's legs.

The Bulldogs tied the score at 10:09 of the first period on Leblanc's power-play goal. After a series of cross-ice passes, Joe Callahan fed the puck to Louis, who wired a shot past Monsters starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

The Monsters regained the lead with just one second remaining in the first period. Malone controlled a bouncing puck in the crease and knocked it in the net by Mayer.

The Monsters increased their lead at 9:50 of the second period as Brophey scored on a 5-on-3 power play. Tyson Barrie took a shot which was stopped by Mayer and the rebound came out to Brophey who slid the puck in the goal.

Lake Erie went up 4-1 at 17:13 of the second on a 5-on-3 goal by Gaunce. After taking a pass from Malone, Jake Newton took a slap shot from the point which was tipped in front of the net by Gaunce past Mayer.

Jessiman capped the scoring at 13:31 of the third period. After a Hamilton defender gave away the puck, Jessiman snapped the puck past Mayer.

Desjardins made 21 saves for Lake Erie.
