SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Adam Lowry had the shootout winner to lift the Swift Current Broncos to a 4-3 win over the visiting Kelowna Rockets in Western Hockey League action Friday.
Lowry scored in the sixth round of the shootout after both teams scored during their opening shots. Colby Cave scored in the first shootout round for Swift Current, with Zach Franko replying for Kelowna.
The win capped a comeback from a 3-1 deficit for Swift Current.
Taylor Vause's second goal of period tied the game at 3-3 with 4:12 left in regulation. Vause, who now has a team-leading 18 goals, also had a short-handed goal at the 8:17 mark of the period to spark Swift Current's third-period rally.
Swift Current opened the scoring on Josh Derko's third goal of the season 2:51 into the game, but Kelowna stormed back to leads of 2-1 and 3-1.
Kelowna got on the board on a power-play goal from Zach Franko, followed by MacKenzie Johnston's first of the season as the Rockets opened a first period lead.
Brett Bulmer scored his 11th of the season to put the Rockets up 3-1 after two periods.
Rockets overage goaltender Adam Brown fell to 10-12-1 after turning aside 34 of 37 shots.
Swift Current starting netminder Jon Groenheyde left with an undisclosed injury after 11:52 of play, stopping just three of five shots. Austin Smith made just his 10th appearance of the season in goal, turning aside 14 of 15 shots during his relief appearance, plus stopping five of six shooters in the shootout.
Swift Current improves to 14-16-3 after posting their third straight win. Kelowna drops to 12-14-4 at the start of their six-game East Division road swing.
