Lightning lose defenceman Boyle for at least a month after wrist surgery @NHLdotcom

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Dan Boyle is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after undergoing wrist surgery Sunday.

Boyle suffered a freak injury in the locker-room after a 2-1 pre-season loss to Washington on Saturday. Distracted while he was hanging up his skate, it slipped off of the hook and hit him in his left wrist, severing three tendons.

The NHL team said the successful surgery was performed by team physician Dr. Ira Guttentag and hand specialist Dr. Richard Gray at University Community Hospital.

Boyle, a 31-year-old Ottawa native, is coming off an impressive regular season where he played in all 82 games, recording 20 goals and 43 assists for 63 points.
