Lightning defenseman Garrison possible for Game 4

by Paul Harris / NHL.com

DETROIT -- Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper said there's a chance defenseman Jason Garrison could return for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday at Joe Louis Arena (7 p.m., ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports, FS-F, FS-D).

Garrison has missed the first three games of the series with an upper-body injury.

"He could play, but the longer this goes the more chance he has of playing," Cooper said after the Lightning skated Thursday morning. "He's becoming closer and closer to a game-time decision."

Tampa Bay trails the series 2-1 after losing 3-0 in Game 3 on Tuesday.

"I think we're in pretty good spirits, actually, given the scenario that we're down 2-1, but we haven't left a game saying, 'Oh my gosh, we are way out of our league.' We've kind of felt the opposite," Cooper said.

"I know it may not have felt like that in Game 3, but you go back and look at the tape, some of these chances we've missed leaves you scratching your head a little bit. Unfortunately we're down 2-1 but that group in there, they're not lacking confidence, I know that."

Defenseman Braydon Coburn is a good example.

"I think there are a lot of guys in here who gave a lot of consistency to their game," Coburn said. "When things don't go their way, they find a way to make things go their way the next game."

Center Tyler Johnson said, "We didn't play the way we wanted to in the third game. We've got to get better."
