ATLANTA (AP) -Without a first-round draft pick, the Atlanta Thrashers kept themselves busy Friday night by re-signing two players and acquiring center Chris Thorburn from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Thrashers signed defenseman Steve McCarthy, a restricted free agent, and left wing Brad Larsen, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Atlanta acquired Thorburn for its second third-round pick of the draft, No. 78 overall. He was a second-round pick by Buffalo in 2001 and has played 41 games in his NHL career.
Larsen had 13 points in 72 games last season playing on the Thrashers checking line. McCarthy had 16 points in 46 games, but didn't play after the Thrashers acquired Alexei Zhitnik from Philadelphia just before the trade deadline.
Atlanta gave up its first-round pick in another deadline deal that brought Keith Tkachuk from St. Louis. The two newcomers helped the Thrashers reach the playoffs for the first time, but they were swept in the first round by the New York Rangers.
