KENNEWICK, Wash. - Jordan Messier scored the game-winner midway through the third as the Tri-City Americans stayed atop the Western Hockey League standings with a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Tuesday night.
Tri-City (39-13-2, 80 points) is tied at the top of the league standings with Brandon, while Saskatoon has 78 points. Drew Owsley finished with 25 saves for his 31st win this season and 38th of his career.
Sergei Drozd and Jarrett Toll also scored for Tri-City.
Lindsay Nielsen and Charles Wells scored for Seattle (14-32-9), which has lost 12 straight games and has not won in Tri-City since Jan. 28, 2008, a span of 12 games.
Michael Salmon finished with 26 saves in the loss.
